SUMMARY:Summer Session with Dr. Samuel J. Abrams
DESCRIPTION:To purchase tickets\, please visit https://jamesgmartincenter.networkforgood.com/events/12613-summer-session-with-dr-samuel-j-abrams \nThe Martin Center’s annual Summer Session luncheon will be held at the Carolina Country Club in Raleigh on Thursday\, June 13. Dr. Samuel Abrams\, a professor of political science at Sarah Lawrence College\, will join us as our keynote speaker! \nIn an October 2018 op-ed piece for The New York Times\, Abrams argued that college administrators overwhelmingly align with the left and this ideological imbalance can threaten the free exchange of ideas on campus. A firestorm ensued. Students trashed his office door\, harassed him\, and demanded the revocation of his tenure. Some faculty members supported the students’ actions. \nPlease help the Martin Center welcome Dr. Abrams and support his dedication to intellectual diversity and academic freedom. \nTickets: https://jamesgmartincenter.networkforgood.com/events/12613-summer-session-with-dr-samuel-j-abrams

SUMMARY:Milton Friedman and Higher Education Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we celebrate Milton Friedman’s 101st birthday with guest speaker George Leef with the Pope Center at a luncheon at the Crowne Plaza in Hickory\, NC. Friedman was one of the greatest thinkers of the 20th century. He dealt often with the deficiencies in our K-12 system\, but wrote relatively little about higher education. Nevertheless\, he made sharp observations about the problems we face in higher education and set forth some radical solutions. George will take what we know about Friedman’s views on higher education and use them to discuss current trends and developments as Friedman would have seen them.
