DESCRIPTION:On July 22\, join editor Michael Lucchese for a discussion of On America: How to Understand the Legacy of 1776\, a new collection of essays by Russell Kirk. \nAs America marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence\, debates over the nation’s founding\, principles\, and identity persist. Was the American Founding a radical break from the past—or the preservation of a rich constitutional and moral tradition? \nDrawing from Kirk’s writings on the Founding\, American statesmanship\, and our literary heritage\, Lucchese will explore why one of the twentieth century’s foremost conservative thinkers believed that the United States is more than an “experiment”—it is the product of centuries of Western civilization and ordered liberty. \nJoin us for a thoughtful conversation about the enduring legacy of 1776\, what it means to be an American\, and why Kirk’s ideas remain relevant today. \n   \nMichael Lucchese is the founder and CEO of Pipe Creek Consulting\, a communications firm based in Washington\, D.C. He is also an associate editor of Law & Liberty and a contributing editor to Providence. He has been elected to membership in the Academy of Philosophy and Letters\, the Ciceronian Society\, and the Philadelphia Society\, and serves on the board of the Institute for Christianity and Common Life\, which publishes Mere Orthodoxy. Previously\, he was a Krauthammer Fellow with the Tikvah Fund\, a visiting scholar at Liberty Fund\, and an aide to U.S. Senator Ben Sasse. His writing on national security\, the conservative movement\, and the American Founding has been published widely at outlets such as the Wall Street Journal\, the Washington Post\, National Review\, and the Washington Examiner. He graduated from Hillsdale College with a B.A. in American Studies\, and is an alumnus of the Hudson Institute Political Studies Program.
