Harry Lewis, former dean of Harvard College and author of “Excellence Without a Soul: How a Great University Forgot Education,” is our keynote speaker and is sure to raise provocative questions and entertain you.
Stephen Balch, founder and president of the National Association of Scholars, will open the conference with “What Does Excellence Mean?”
Panel discussions include:
• Excellence at the Top – a talk with college leaders from Elizabeth City, Elon, Yorktown, and UNC General Administration
• Independent Campus Centers – discussion with professors from Princeton, Hamilton and Duke
• Trustees in the 21st Century – trustees from State University of NY, Dartmouth College, University of California, and UNC-Chapel Hill
• Restoring Excellence to the Curriculum – an author, professor and dean discuss the curriculum in today’s universities
