Getting Online Education Right

Please join the Martin Center via Zoom for “Getting Online Education Right” on Thursday, October 1.

This panel discussion features leaders in higher education. Our panelists include

Catherine Truitt, Chancellor of Western Governors University North Carolina. Chancellor Catherine Truitt joined WGU North Carolina after serving as Associate Vice President of University and P–12 Partnerships at UNC General Administration. Prior to that, Catherine served as Senior Education Advisor to Governor Pat McCrory. In this role, she worked to ensure all North Carolina students received the high-quality education they need to be college- and career-ready in a global economy.

 

 

Doug Shackelford, Dean of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. Dr. Shackelford served as the first associate dean of MBA@UNC, the innovative online MBA program, from 2010 until he became dean on Feb. 1, 2014. He served as senior associate dean for academic affairs from 2003-2007, and associate dean of the Master of Accounting Program from 1998-2002. An award-winning researcher and teacher, his work focuses on taxes and business strategy. His current areas of interest include the effects of shareholder taxes on equity prices, taxation of multinationals and disclosure of corporate tax information.

 

 

Marty Kotis, Member of the UNC System Board of Governors and chair of the Board of Governor’s Working Group on Online Education. As a member of the Board, Mr. Kotis’s goal is to preserve the System’s quality by ensuring that its institutions stay current on trending issues such as online learning, advancements in technology, and construction projects. He also serves on the Board of Governors’ Committee on Budget and Finance and as the secretary on the Committee on Strategic Initiatives.

 

 

Scott Ralls, President of Wake Technical Community College. Dr. Scott Ralls became the fourth president of Wake Technical Community College on April 11, 2019. Before coming to Wake Tech, he served as president of Northern Virginia Community College from 2015-2019, president of the NC Community College System from 2008-2015, and president of Craven Community College in New Bern from 2002-2008. He has also worked from the NC Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Department of Labor.

 

Nicole Divers, UNC-Chapel Hill senior majoring in political science and economics. Nicole is participating in the political science honors program and has served as an undergraduate learning assistant for Data in Politics I since 2019. Nicole is also a former Martin Center intern.
