About the Fellowship

The Martin Center’s Carolina Cardinal Writing Fellowship is a six-week virtual program designed to equip aspiring North Carolina journalists with the skills and knowledge to write thoughtfully and persuasively about higher education in their home state.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Insider Tips: Discover how to pitch stories and build a freelance writing career
  • Policy Insight: Develop an understanding of the key issues shaping North Carolina’s higher education landscape

Program Details

  • When: Tuesdays, 6:30–8:30 p.m. ET, from September 30 to November 4, 2025
  • Where: Online (Zoom link will be provided to accepted fellows)
  • Eligibility: Open to college juniors and seniors, graduate students, and early-career professionals who live in or are from North Carolina

Expectations

  • Attend at least five of the six live sessions
  • Submit one original, long-form article (1,000–1,200 words) on a higher education issue in North Carolina for publication by the Martin Center
