Bass is a journalist and marketing communications professional. His past roles include director of communications and grants officer for the John William Pope Foundation (2012-2014), associate editor at the John Locke Foundation (2008-2012), and research associate at the N.C. Family Policy Council (2004-2008).
In addition to creating and executing content marketing campaigns for both non-profit and for-profit organizations, Bass has written reporting, opinion, and analysis pieces for a variety of publications, including National Review Online, Education Week, The Washington Examiner, TownHall.com, the Heartland Institute's Budget & Tax News, and Stanford University's Education Next. His articles have been featured by the Drudge Report, BigGovernment.com, RedState.com, The Washington Times, The Charlotte Observer, RealClearPolitics.com, and The Christian Science Monitor.
In 2012, he contributed a feature article to The American Spectator's issue on Social Security, alongside U.S. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan.
A frequent radio show guest, Bass has appeared on Raleigh's WPTF-AM, Chicago's WYLL-AM, Austin's KLGO-FM, Newport's WTKF-FM, Wilmington's WLTT-FM, and American Family Radio.
Bass has a B.A. in journalism from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J.
