Gary W. Houchens, Ph.D., is a former teacher, principal, and school-district administrator now serving as professor in the School of Leadership and Professional Development and as director of the educational-leadership doctoral program at Western Kentucky University. He is a long-time education-reform advocate and, from 2016-2019, served as a member of the Kentucky Board of Education. He is on the board of scholars for the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions and regularly writes on the intersection of education, faith, and public policy for The American Postliberal, The Imaginative Conservative, and his Substack, Schools, Souls, & Civitas.
