Author Profile

Marica Bernstein

Twenty years ago, Marica Bernstein left academia for the greener pastures of farm life and the pursuit of a real education. To that end, she has collected thousands of old books that preserve the history and hilarity of Western culture. Her love of learning and vintage children’s literature inspire her writing, and she believes stories are powerful tools for education. Her young-adult book, Miss Missy’s School: A Pack of Farm Dogs Starts a School, reflects this belief. Her favorite subjects are reading, writing, and arithmetic; biology, meteorology, and statistics; and, of course, the history of children’s literature. She is vice president and secretary-treasurer of Deep South Philosophy and Neuroscience Workgroup, which her husband, John Bickle, founded.

Along with John and a colleague, she will be co-author of the book-in-progress The Stories of Neurophilosophy: Being the Fifty-Year History of the Trailblazers and Explorers Who Brought Together Philosophy and the Brain Sciences to Open Up the Black Box of Our Minds.
