Foundational Skills and Knowledge: A Dialogue on General Education at UNC-Chapel Hill

FreeOn Wednesday, April 15, the John W. Pope Center for Higher Education Policy and UNC-Chapel Hill’s College of Arts and Sciences will present a panel discussion on general education. The discussion will address the importance of general education at institutions of higher learning, how to design a strong general education program, and the desired impacts that such a program will have on students, faculty, and administrators. Panelists include Dr. Mark Katz, Ruel W. Tyson, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Humanities and Director of the Institute for Arts and Humanities at UNC-Chapel Hill, Dr. Jenna A. Robinson, President of the Pope Center, UNC-Chapel Hill 2014-15 Student Body President Andrew Powell, and UNC-Chapel Hill Student Government Academic Affairs Policy Chair Sowmya Mangipudi. Dr. Abigail Panter, Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education at UNC-Chapel Hill, will serve as moderator. The event is open to the public and will be held in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room at Wilson Library, located at 200 South Road on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, from 4PM until 5PM. Registration begins at 3:30PM.
