As America approaches its Semiquincentennial, the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal is thrilled to announce the Tournament of American Genius—a creative celebration of the nation’s unparalleled creativity, intellect, and achievements.
This unique, yearlong NCAA-style competition honors the most significant exemplars of American exceptionalism across eight distinct categories:
- Poetry: Works that uplift and unify the American spirit.
- Novels: Stories capturing the struggles and triumphs of American life.
- Speeches: Orations that shaped history and moved hearts.
- Documents, Essays, & Letters: Writings that inspired revolutions and guided democracy.
- Art: Masterpieces reflecting America’s identity and values.
- Music: Compositions from national anthems to jazz riffs that define our culture.
- Engineering & Architecture: Innovations that built a land of endless possibilities.
- Science: Breakthroughs that pushed the boundaries of knowledge.
How It Works
Participants nationwide will vote weekly to decide which intellectual contributions advance through head-to-head matchups. The competition culminates in a grand finale on July 4, 2026, honoring 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Why This Matters
The Tournament of American Genius is more than a competition; it’s a platform to celebrate and engage with the intellectual and creative contributions that define America’s greatness. By sparking a national conversation, the Martin Center aims to inspire a deeper appreciation for the ingenuity, creativity, and grit that make the nation a beacon of freedom and innovation.
