The Florida Board of Governors unanimously approved a new policy requiring professors at all 12 public universities to publish course syllabi, reading lists, and grading criteria at least 45 days before the semester begins. Supporters say the measure will improve transparency and help students make informed choices.
Jenna A. Robinson, president of the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal, praised the reform, telling The College Fix, “Syllabus transparency is an important accountability tool. It ensures that classroom material aligns with course descriptions—the academic version of truth-in-advertising.” The policy takes effect this spring, joining similar initiatives in Georgia, Texas, and Indiana.
