[PRESS RELEASE] Martin Center Launches Carolina Cardinal Fellowship

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 22, 2025) — The James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal has launched the new Carolina Cardinal Fellowship.

The Martin Center’s Carolina Cardinal Writing Fellowship is a six-week virtual program designed to equip aspiring North Carolina journalists with the skills and knowledge to write thoughtfully and persuasively about higher education in their home state.

The program is open to North Carolina college students, graduate students, and young professionals.

Prospective Carolina Cardinal fellows will gain:

  • Core Skills: Learn the essentials of opinion writing, web journalism, and reporting and research techniques
  • Insider Tips: Discover how to pitch stories and build a freelance writing career
  • Policy Insight: Develop an understanding of the key issues shaping North Carolina’s higher education landscape.

They’ll also join the Martin Center’s vibrant alumni community.

“Good higher education journalism is essential,” said Jenna A. Robinson, the president of the Martin Center. “This program will ensure that more young journalists have the tools they need to write responsibly about the higher education landscape.”
