[LETTER]: Martin Center Urges UNC–Chapel Hill to Prioritize Merit and Equal Opportunity in Enrollment Leadership

RALEIGH, N.C. (December 3, 2025) — Today, the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal sent a letter to UNC–Chapel Hill Chancellor Lee Roberts outlining key priorities for the university’s search for a new Vice Provost for Enrollment.

In the letter, Martin Center president Jenna A. Robinson encourages the university to select a leader who is firmly committed to merit-based admissions, full compliance with the Students for Fair Admissions ruling, and equal opportunity for all applicants. She emphasizes that the next Vice Provost should advance transparent, lawful, and race-neutral policies that strengthen public trust and support academic excellence.

“The individual chosen for this role will shape the university’s enrollment strategy for years to come,” Robinson said. “UNC–Chapel Hill has an important opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to fairness and accountability.”

The Martin Center will continue to monitor the search process and advocate for leadership choices that uphold the principles of lawful governance and academic integrity.
