Pope Conference Scheduled

The Pope Center will hold its annual conference on higher education, “Building Excellence into American Higher Education, on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at the Hilton Raleigh-Durham Airport at Research Triangle Park.

The keynote speaker will be Harry Lewis, former dean of Harvard College and author of “Excellence Without a Soul: How a Great University Forgot Education.”

Other speakers include:
* Dick Bishirjian, president of Yorktown, a private, for-profit university
* Todd Zywicki, a Dartmouth trustee
* Candace de Russy, critic of current education trends and a trustee of the State University of New York
* Elizabeth Kantor, author of “The Politically Incorrect Guide to English Literature”
* Velma Montoya, former member, California Board of Regents

Date: October 27, 2007
Time: Approximately 9 am to 3 pm
Place: Hilton Raleigh-Durham Airport at Research Triangle Park
Cost: $20 (includes luncheon)
